Particulars of organization, function and duties
[Section 4(1) (b) (i)]

1. Aims and objectives of the organization:

The main aim of the department is promotion of tourism in the NCT of Delhi.  It, therefore, involves formulation, implementation and monitoring of tourism related schemes/plans for promotion of tourism & tourism infrastructure, coordination and regulatory functions related to tourism matters in the NCT of Delhi.  


             To formulate and implement policies for promotion of tourism infrastructure in Delhi  and provide all necessary facilities to promote tourism in Delhi .

2. Mission

            To provide safe, eco friendly, cost effective and efficient accommodation and tourism infrastructure to tourists and revive traditional culture of India by way of organizing various kinds of  festivals.

3. Brief History and background for its establishment.

The activities of Tourism, prior  to 1999. were part of Transport Department. However, in 1999, to give due importance to Tourism related activities, it was separated from Transport Department and given the status of an independent Department under allocation of business Rules 1993.

4. Allocation of business

Tourism Department , Govt of NCT of Delhi, conducts the following business.

a)                  Classification of Hotels.
Delhi Tourism Transport & Development Corporation (DTTDC).
Development and Promotion of Tourism.
 Licensing of Travel Agents.
Approval of Restaurants.
Paying Guest Residential Accommodation  for the tourist. 

5.  Details of services rendered

A   Approval of stand alone Restaurants.
B   Registration of Paying Guest Residential Accommodation.
C    Grant- in- Aid to DTTDC
D.  Grant-in- Aid to DIHM & CT
E  Inspection and classifications of hotels 

The department gets most of its schemes implemented through DTTDC.  Besides, a scheme, namely, PGRA is being implemented by the department wherein residential premises are registered as PGRA by the department.  Further a voluntary scheme of granting approval to the restaurants is also being implemented by the department. Both these aim at promotion of tourism in Delhi .  

6. Organizational Chart

The department is  headed by Pr. Secretary (Tourism); Joint Secretary (Tourism) is also posted in the department. There is one post of Assistant Director (Tourism) and three posts of Research Officers followed by 10 posts each of Statistical Assistant  & Statistical Investigator, LDC and process servers.

Tourism Department always welcomes suggestions and gives due regard to general public and if any grievance is there from any public, it is taken care of.
